Cuties- Netflix has gone too far

I am pretty sure you guys are all familiar with the movie "Cuties". If you are not, it is a movie about an 11 year old rebel who joins a free-spirited dance group and starts exploring her femininity. (The movie will be released on the 9th of September).

*breathe in* *breathe out*

Look, I'm all about discovering yourself and exploring different areas in your life, but this is TOO FAR. There are so many things wrong about this but let's start with the poster first.

LOOK AT THAT PICTURE. What are they making them do?! Is this how Netflix decides to represent 11 year olds?! Heck, the WHOLE movie is questionable on it's representation of children but I'll talk more about that later.

There has been a bombardment of backlash from the public, even leading to a petition in Change.org to remove the streaming platform, calling it "disgusting as it sexualizes an eleven-year-old for the viewing pleasure of pedophiles and also negatively influences our children.” PREACH.

Finally Netflix responded with a tweet saying,

"We're deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for Mignonnes/Cuties. It was not OK, nor was it representative of this French film which won an award at Sundance. We’ve now updated the pictures and description."

Okay, that's good. Except for one problem, Why in the world is Netflix still planning to release the movie?! Surely they know by now how unrealistic and toxic it is. Like seriously, 11 year- olds joining a twerking dance group and wearing suggestive clothes? That's practically asking to draw in predators. Plus what kind of 11 year old does that? When I was 11, I was watching Spongebob and anime, HECK, I still AM. Netflix has always been doing things like this: sexualizing teenagers in their movies and series, adding unnecessary drama. But 11 year olds? That's TOO FAR! I also have a problem of how they portrayed the main characters's parents as "villains" just because they didn't want their (11 YEAR OLD) daughter to be sexually objectified. I highlight the word "11 year old" because their ages are what disturbs me the most. What is even the point of this movie? Is it educational? Of course not! Is it entertaining? Not in the slightest. Does it give a good image of children and spread awareness of problems in the world? NO, infact its doing the OPPOSITE of that.

*sigh*

I- I just can't anymore. The whole movie is disgusting; please don't support that kind of thing and... have a good day.

Thank you for reading- God bless x

BTW, the movie trailer has currently received 1.1 million dislikes (and counting) and 5.9

million views on YouTube.

If you think the show is bad, take allow at the dance competitions and dance industry thay is practically doing the aamw thing. Also belly dancing in Ukraine and in Europe is popular, so it is not as unrealistic as you think.
